NICET has updated its Electrical Power Testing (EPT) Certification program. Updated exams for Levels I, II, and III are available beginning October 5, 2026, and the Level IV exam will be released in January 2027.
The program certifies technicians who inspect, test, and maintain the equipment used to generate, transmit, and distribute electrical power, and who evaluate that equipment for acceptance into service, continued serviceability, or required maintenance.
Careers in Construction Month is an annual month designated to increase public awareness and appreciation of construction craft professionals and the entire construction workforce. NICET offers a variety of construction-related certifications. Do you have one of these? Post about it on LinkedIn and tag NICET!

The world lost Dan Wittliff on October 13, 2025. What we did not lose is his enduring legacy guided by his conviction that those who benefit from the guidance and support of others are obliged to “pay it forward” by helping those who follow.
Dan lived that philosophy throughout a remarkable engineering career. From his early years as an Air Force engineer to his leadership in the electric utility and environmental fields, and ultimately through decades of service to the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) and the Texas Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE), Dan devoted himself not only to engineering, but to helping other engineers grow.
That commitment is one reason NSPE is proud to recognize Dan with an honorary Systems Software Integrator (SSI) Certification—the first and only honorary SSI to be awarded.
Starting with the Fire Alarm Systems program, NICET has begun issuing new downloadable certificates using the Accredible platform. This is the same platform we issued digital badges through. These new certificates have added security to protect your credential and the value of NICET certification. Access the certificates the same way you access digital badges—log in to your NICET account> click My Certification> click View Your Accredible Badges in the upper right.
Please note: We are working to have all programs available soon. We appreciate your patience if you don’t see yours immediately.
NICET submitted the application for personnel certification accreditation for Fire Alarm Systems Levels I-IV with the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) under the ISO/IEC 17024:2012 standard. The initial assessment was conducted virtually by ANAB Assessors, and some non-conformities (NCR) were issued. At this time all NCRs have been resolved, and NICET is awaiting confirmation of accreditation.
Updates began in May 2026. Exam content will be updated to reflect the 2025 edition of NFPA 72, and NICET has applied for ANAB accreditation under the ISO/IEC 17024 standard. NICET is also seeking Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to support the test development process. Updated exams are anticipated to launch in mid-to-late 2027.
Updated exams for Electrical Power Testing (EPT) Levels I, II, and III will be available October 5, 2026. The EPT Level IV exam will be unavailable until 2027.
NICET is currently updating the exams for all levels of SHS. The updated exams will be available for testing on November 2, 2026.
Did you know that volunteers who help update NICET programs earn CPD points toward the recertification requirements? NICET staff add the points to your log after the task or activity is complete. And, if needed, NICET staff can send recognition in the form of a letter or certificate. Learn more.

If references are permitted during your testing session, the approved listing will be on the program page on NICET’s website. Some acceptable references may be embedded within the exam – which will be noted on the program reference page. Candidates may also bring hard copies of the acceptable references. Test questions are based on the standard editions listed; therefore, candidates are strongly urged to bring these published year editions to the exam. Candidates may bring older or newer editions—instead of the editions listed —at their own risk. Exam comments that are made based on other published edition years will not be reviewed until the next maintenance cycle. An NFPA Handbook will NOT be accepted as a substitute for any standard. References must be bound or secured in a three-ring binder with a title page. They may have highlighted text and self-adhesive index tabs or dividers, but they must be permanently attached (meaning if removed will rip the page). No other additions or modifications to the references are allowed. Handwritten notes are NOT permitted. References with loose paper or pages and freestanding tabs (e.g., repositionable sticky notes/tabs of any kind) are not permitted into the testing centers. |
