Christina Lewellen Has Started as Executive Director and CEO of NSPE
Effective April 6, Christina Lewellen, MBA, FASAE, CAE stepped in as the new Executive Director and CEO of NSPE. Lewellen brings more than 20 years of association leadership experience, with a strong track record in member engagement, operational strategy, and organizational growth. NSPE/NICET is excited to step into our next chapter of service and professional advancement for engineers under her leadership.

Updated HCI Program Exams Have Launched
NICET’s Highway Construction Inspection (HCI) exams were updated on April 27, 2026 and are now available for testing. References are permitted in the testing center for the new exams.
June is Building Safety Month!
This month is a reminder of the critical role safe, reliable infrastructure plays in our everyday lives and how strong certification programs play a critical role in protecting people, buildings, and communities.
EPT Program Update in Progress
NICET is currently looking for EPT (Electrical Power Testing) Certificants (Levels III-IV) to serve as Subject Matter Experts for item development tasks.
SHS Program Update in Progress
NICET is currently looking for SHS (Special Hazards Systems) Certificants (Levels III-IV) to serve as Subject Matter Experts for item development tasks.
FAS Program Maintenance & Accreditation Update
NICET began the maintenance cycle for the Fire Alarm Systems (FAS) certification program in May 2026. Exam content will be updated to reflect the 2025 edition of NFPA 72, and NICET has applied for ANAB accreditation under the ISO/IEC 17024 standard. NICET is also seeking Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to support the test development process. Updated exams are anticipated to launch in mid-to-late 2027.

Tip of the Month
Hands-On Performance Exams for CMT Certifications
If you’re pursuing Construction Materials Testing (CMT) certification, you can opt into a hands-on performance exam through NICET’s third-party provider, Caliber Consulting Services LLC. These exams give you the opportunity to demonstrate your skills using real ASTM or AASHTO testing methods for Asphalt, Concrete, Soils, and Aggregates. You can choose from 70+ approved test methods, and each exam focuses on practical procedures, calculations, equipment use, and standard requirements. Successful completion is recorded in your NICET certification history and can help support additional laboratory or personnel qualification requirements.
