ICYMI: How NICET Certification Strengthens Highway Construction Teams
PE Magazine recently featured an article on how NICET’s Highway Construction Inspection (HCI) Certification Program continues to support safe, high-quality infrastructure through a skilled and qualified workforce. As the industry evolves, the program is being updated to reflect current practices, emerging technologies, and increasing demand for certified professionals. Updated HCI exams launched on April 27, ensuring inspectors are prepared to meet today’s standards and challenges.

The SSI Exam Has Launched
Applications are being accepted for the Systems Software Integrator (SSI) certification and approved candidates are now able to take the SSI exam.
HCI Program Update Nearing Completion, Updated Exams Launching Soon
NICET’s Highway Construction Inspection (HCI) exams are undergoing update/ maintenance and new exams will be available for testing starting April 27, 2026. References will be permitted in the testing center when the new exams launch.
All ITWBS Exams Now Available
The Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems (ITWBS) Level III Pilot Test ended Nov 30, 2025. All three levels of updated ITWBS exams are now live.
EPT Program Update in Progress
NICET is currently looking for EPT (Electrical Power Testing) Certificants (Levels II-IV) to serve as Subject Matter Experts for item development tasks.
SHS Program Update in Progress
NICET is currently looking for SHS (Special Hazards Systems) Certificants (Levels III-IV) to serve as Subject Matter Experts for item development tasks.

Tip of the Month
Rescheduling your NICET Exam
You can reschedule your exam through your candidate portal as long as changes are made at least 24 hours in advance. Click “Schedule,” then “Schedule with Pearson VUE,” and select your exam to cancel or reschedule. Be sure to complete all steps. Your update is only confirmed once you click “Confirm Reschedule,” see the confirmation message, and receive an email from Pearson VUE.
If you don’t get an email, the process was not completed. For best results, use a laptop or desktop. Missed appointments may result in a fee. OnVUE (online) candidates can reschedule up until their appointment time without penalty. For changes within 24 hours or after your eligibility window, contact test@nicet.org with your name and NICET ID.
