NICET Board of Governors

July 1 marks the new fiscal year for NICET which corresponds to a new term for the NICET Board of Governors (BoG). The BoG meets twice each year to set strategic goals and establish operating policies for NICET. Board members serve in a volunteer capacity. Seven are knowledgeable in the fields of engineering and engineering technology, while the eighth represents the general public. Construction Materials Testing Optimization Study

On July 7, 2026, NICET hosted the first of several meetings with construction materials testing industry stakeholders to modernize and optimize this important certification program. The purpose of the study is to guide the next update and maintenance phase to ensure NICET’s CMT meets industry and stakeholders current and future needs. The program is designed for laboratory and field technicians engaged in the testing and inspection of construction materials. Knowledge of engineering properties of construction materials used in buildings, roads, and related civil engineering projects and knowledge of testing specifications, practices, methods, and materials evaluation is required.

Program Updates & Maintenance

Fire Alarm Systems (FAS)

Updates began in May 2026. Exam content will be updated to reflect the 2025 edition of NFPA 72, and NICET has applied for ANAB accreditation under the ISO/IEC 17024 standard. NICET is also seeking Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to support the test development process. Updated exams are anticipated to launch in mid-to-late 2027.

Electrical Power Testing

Updated exams for Electrical Power Testing (EPT) Levels I, II, and III will be available October 5, 2026. The EPT Level IV exam will be unavailable until 2027.

Special Hazards Systems (SHS)

NICET is currently updating the exams for all levels of SHS. The updated exams will be available for testing on November 2, 2026.
