Inspection and Testing of Water Based Systems (ITWBS) Level III Pilot – Extended Testing Window

NICET staff started working with industry volunteers almost 18 months ago to update the Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems program. The main purpose was to update exam content to reference newer codes and standards for all levels. Dozens of knowledgeable volunteers participated to update the job task analysis, write test questions, review test questions, and verify reference material. The updated ITWBS exams will be based off the 2023 edition of NFPA 25.

Updated Level I, II and Level III (administered as a pilot test) exams will be available June 2, 2025.  Since 2 new domains have been added to Level III, there is a need to pilot this exam. The pilot test is designed to collect data on exam performance to assist with determining the final exam items and passing score.

Participate in NICET’s pilot test for ITWBS Level III and get 50% discount on exam fees (for exams scheduled and taken during the pilot period).

PILOT EXTENSION NOTICE: The pilot testing window has been extended to November 30, 2025 because we did not meet the minimum required number of test takers during the original testing period (June 2 - August 31, 2025). This extension allows for additional candidates to participate and helps us gather the necessary data for exam validation.

  • The pilot will run from June 2, 2025 to November 30, 2025.
  • Test takers will NOT receive a score immediately at the end of the exam. Test results will be issued in December 2025.
  • For data analysis purposes, participants are only permitted to test once during the pilot period.

If the work experience documentation is submitted before November 15, 2025, NICET will prioritize the review of experience documentation for the pilot test takers. Once the results are announced and if you have passed, you will receive your Level III certification immediately.

Testing Discount:
Level III exam $180 (regularly $370)

Exam Window:
