First "Hands On" Performance Examinations Administered for Construction Materials Testing

NICET's First Hands On Exam

On June 10, 2020, NICET, through recognized performance examination administrator Caliber Consulting Services LLC, conducted the first performance examinations in its 59-year history. The new performance examinations are intended to complement the current certification programs in Construction Materials Testing (CMT) for Asphalt, Concrete, and Soils.

The optional performance examinations are conducted by third-party NICET-recognized performance examination administrators and will ensure candidates are able to meet any federal, state, and/or industry laboratory accreditation and personnel qualification requirements.

Candidates can choose from over 70 specific and applicable ASTM or AASHTO testing methods for Asphalt, Concrete, Soils, and Aggregates. Performance examinations will address testing methods, calculations, equipment, criteria, and content of the relevant ASTM or AASHTO testing methods. The content of the performance examination checklists is derived directly from the applicable ASTM or AASHTO testing method.

NICET is responsible for establishing the content, administration policies, and procedures for all performance examinations. Recognized performance examination administrators will use an evaluation checklist to conduct the performance examination for each ASTM or AASHTO testing method.

NICET will recognize and maintain a candidate’s record of successful completion of each performance examination.

The initial phase is provided exclusively by Caliber Consulting Services LLC.
