2025 was a productive year for NICET’s Certification Development team. Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), practitioners, and staff worked on program updates for Highway Construction Inspection (HCI), Electrical Power Testing (EPT), Inspection & Testing of Water-Based Systems (ITWBS), and Special Hazards Systems (SHS). The ITWBS exams have been updated to the following editions – NFPA 25 (2023), NFPA 20 (2022), NFPA 72 (2022), NFPA 291 (2022), NFPA 11 (2021), NFPA 14 (2014).

Also, a special thank you to everyone who took pilot tests for ITWBS-III and SSI. It is your forward-looking mindset that makes a pilot successful!
Looking ahead to 2026, we're excited to roll out updated exams for HCI, SHS, and EPT, and issue the first certifications for Systems Software Integrator (SSI). Plus, we will kick off updates of the Fire Alarm Systems (FAS) and begin development of a new format for our Construction Materials Testing (CMT) program.
