Construction Material Testing (CMT) News
NICET is revising its programs to ensure they meet industry needs, they remain up to date, and that they meet the standards of certification program accrediting agencies, such as ANSI. The revisions include moving from paper/pencil tests to a computer based tests. Please see FAQs for Computer Based Testing (CBT).
NICET regularly brings together industry leaders and subject matter experts to identify industry needs, and design and maintain technician certification programs.
The revised program structure for CMT contains the following subfields
- Soils Laboratory
- Soils Field
- Aggregates
- Concrete Laboratory
- Concrete Field
- Asphalt Laboratory
- Asphalt Field
The first step for the development committee is to conduct a practice analysis and develop a technician profile delineating the typical responsibilities and experience of the persons to be certified by the certification program. The profile depicts the career path of the technician from entry level (Level I) to the senior level (Level IV) in the particular technical specialty area. It describes minimum work experience, on-the-job responsibilities, typical activities, and typical job titles of the technicians for each of the certification levels in the specialty area.
Qualified practitioners are invited to participate in the practice analysis validation surveys.
