The Application and Certification Process
Standard Model/CBT:
24 hours after you receive your confirmation from NICET contact Pearson VUE online or by phone (866-880-0048) immediately to get the best selection for the center, date, and time for your exam/s.
Paper-and-Pencil Testing:
If your selected test date is fewer than two weeks away, and you have not received a confirmation notice, please call 888-476-4238 and press 2.If 150 days have passed since you tested, and you have not received a decision from NICET, please call 888-476-4238, and press 3. |

NICET is transitioning all of our programs from the Work Element (WE)/Paper -and-Pencil format to the Standard Model/ Computer-Based Testing (CBT) format. The applications and processes are unique to each format. The webpage for each program (see list of programs) contains important dates during the transition period and links to the appropriate applications. Submitting the proper application for the correct format based on these dates will ensure timely processing of your application. Using our online testing application will guide you to the proper format. Register/Login for the online application.
Certification
Requirements for all programs include testing, work experience, and performance verification. At higher levels of certification a personal recommendation and major project write-up may also be required.
After confirming that you meet all the requirements for certification, NICET will mail you a certificate and a wallet card, and your name will then appear in NICET's directories, and online lookup system.
Standard Model/CBT
The testing and Experience Applications may be submitted separately in any order or together. Each test and certification level has a specific corresponding fee listed on the payment form and on the Fees page.
Experience Applications will be reviewed within 90* days of receipt with payment. , If the review process turns up shortcomings against the certification requirements, NICET will mail you a Conditional Decision Letter (CDL) with further instructions.
When NICET receives your testing application we will send you an eligibility notice with instructions for selecting your test center and scheduling your exam. You will receive an unofficial score at the completion of your exam and an official score report within two to three weeks.
Certification is issued once all requirements are met.
WE/Paper-and-Pencil
After processing your application, NICET will send you a confirmation notice with directions to your test center and information about what to bring with you. Two to three weeks after the exam, you will receive your score report in the mail.
After passing the exam requirement, if the evaluation process turns up shortcomings against the other certification requirements, NICET will mail you a CDL with further instructions.
Certification is issued once all requirements are met.
The Institute will notify you of its decision within 90* days of your test date.
*Complicated cases may take significantly longer.
