Application Forms and Procedures
Work Element Technician Programs
Application Forms
| When trying to meet an exam requirement, you may want to add a couple of extra work elements in each category for padding. |
Whether you are pursuing NICET certification or just want to take an exam, every form you need can be found, complete with instructions, in one application package; just print it out and you are ready to get started:
NICET Technician Application Package
On all paper application forms, NICET prefers signatures written in ink colors other than black. Please print or type. Please keep copies of your application forms for your records.
The Program Detail Manual
This manual is full of information that will guide you through the certification process and suggests resources that will help you prepare for the exam. If you already have a manual, compare it with the edition number on the website to make sure you have the most current edition.
If you are testing in one of NICET's fire protection programs, download the list of fire standard editions referenced in exam questions.
Test Locations and Dates
| Remember, you can take up to 34 work elements in one exam sitting. If you can meet your exam requirement in fewer, you might want to start testing work elements for the next higher level's requirement. Then, when you've met the work experience requirement for the higher level, you'll have a head start on testing. |
Access NICET's exam schedule on-line to find a test center in your area. Here you will also find the dates on which tests are given and the application deadlines.
Complete the Technician Application Forms
The NICET Technician Application Package includes the following parts:
- Part I: Applicant Information
- Part II: Work History
- Part III: Performance Verification
- Part IV: Examination
- Part V: Personal Recommendation (required at Levels III and IV)
Each of these parts is required for certification (though only Parts I and IV are necessary to apply to take a test). Submitting all parts early will avoid the delays caused by incomplete applications. Please read the General Instructions and the instructions for each part carefully.
Level IV Applicants
A write-up of a major project is a requirement for all Level IV certification candidates. Please see the "Level IV Major Project" section in your Program Detail Manual for detailed guidelines.
Examination Fee Payment and Application Mailing
You must mail your application with the exam fee payment to the address on the form by the application post-mark deadline. Please note that this address is a bank address rather than NICET's street address. Any applications mailed to NICET will be forwarded to the bank, and as a result, will invalidate the original postmark. Since the bank address is a Post Office Box, only the United States Postal Service can make express deliveries.
Examination Confirmation Notice
This notice will provide you with test location details and a list of items you need to bring. If you have not received a confirmation letter by three weeks prior to your chosen test day, please call NICET at 888-476-4238, ext 111, or send an email to: test@nicet.org.
After the Exam
You should receive your score report within three weeks of your test date. Within 90 days of your test date, NICET will notify you by mail of your certification status. If you are approved for certification, you will receive an approval letter, a certificate, and a wallet card. If you have not completed all the requirements for certification, you will receive a Conditional Decision Letter with further instructions.
If 90 days have passed since you met an exam requirement, and you have not received either a certificate or a Conditional Decision Letter, then please contact NICET at 888-476-4238. If your certificate gets lost in the mail, NICET will replace it free of charge if you notify us within 6 months of the issue date.
Help ensure that you receive your certification documents promptly! Please notify NICET immediately of any address changes; call us at 888-476-4238 or e-mail us at cert@nicet.org.
