Applying for a Test: Scheduling, Payment, and Confirmation

What is a testing window?
NICET's examination is administered at a computer-based testing center operated by Pearson VUE. Upon purchasing the exam, you are issued a 6-month testing window to schedule an exam date and time.

Can I schedule two exams during the same day?
Yes. You may take as many exams as you would like. When scheduling your exams with Pearson VUE, you may schedule your exams for the same day, depending on the time slots available.

When will I get authorization of my exam?
If paid online, your authorization will be emailed within 24 hours. If paid with a check, your authorization will be emailed once the payment has been processed (may take a couple of weeks). Once you schedule an exam date and time, your confirmation of scheduling comes from Pearson Vue. If you have not received your test authorization please contact NICET.

Can I take my exam if I do not have my confirmation?
Yes, but you must bring TWO forms of identification with you to the testing center. One must be a current official government issued photo id such as a driver license, passport, etc. Digital IDs are not acceptable.

Can I reschedule an exam date?
Rescheduling your NICET exam has never been easier and in most cases does not incur any additional fees. Additional fees may apply if rescheduling is attempted within 24 hours of the appointment time, the eligibility window expires, or there is less than 24 hours until the eligibility expires.

The best way to reschedule your exam is to login to your NICET account and “click “Schedule in the left side navigation then “Schedule with Pearson VUE” for the exam you want to reschedule.

Then click the exam name to view the appointment then “Reschedule” on the right side of the screen.

Caution: Just like the original scheduling process there are several screens, agreements, and confirmations. The process is not complete until you click the “Confirm Reschedule” button, see the notice: “Your Appointment is Rescheduled” and receive a confirmation email directly from Pearson Vue. Taking a screenshot of this process is not acceptable. Failure to complete the process and missing your appointment does incur a rescheduling fee.

You may also call Pearson VUE at 1-866-880-0048 to reschedule. However, significant wait times can occur.

Candidates who are testing using the online remote proctored (ONVUE) option may rescheduling their appointment date/time right up until their appointment without incurring additional fees. Just follow the same process as detailed above.

If you need to reschedule under the 24-hour mark, or after your eligibility window expires, email your request to test@nicet.org. We will then respond with the rescheduling process. Please provide your name as it appears in your candidate account and your NICET ID.

How much will my exam cost?
The current examination fee can be found on NICET's Fees page.

If my employer paid for my exam, but I'm leaving the company, can I cancel the exam and have the money refunded?
If an exam date was scheduled, then fees will not be refunded. If no test date was scheduled, then monies will be issued back to payment method used minus the processing fee. NICET will not be responsible for notifying you that your employer has transferred your exam fee to another employee; you must contact your former employer.
